Graig Farm Organics

When Bob and Carolyn Kennard returned from 10 years working in tropical agriculture in 1988, they were struck by the blandness of British meat, and were rather appalled at some of the developments in intensive livestock farming in the UK.

graig farmThe initial plan was to produce chickens which tasted like chickens, and which were reared with compassion. After some trials, suitable systems were developed, and the chickens started to sell. It wasn't long before customers started asking for similarly reared lamb, beef and pork.

At this point, the Kennards concluded that the only standard which could not be debased was organic, and from then on, this was the standard they used. From chicken, they started processing lamb, mutton, beef, and so the range grew.

Graig Farm Organics approached Eco-Logical in October 2006 to establish their environmental policy. In November they introduced a system, designed by Eco-Logical, that enabled customers to offset their deliveries and the full environmental policy was ratified in early 2007.

Upon implementation of the policy and initiation of a number of the strategies suggested by Eco-Logical Graig Farm Organics saved over £2000. More savings will be made as reductions in resource use and efficiencies are introduced.

As it is the commitment of Eco-Logical (UK) Ltd to create entire supply chains, "from field to fork" that are environmentally minded Graig Farm Organics Environmental Assesment forms the first link of an environmentally sustainable supply chain. As members of the supply chain reach Assessed status this brings confidence to the consumer as well as the opportunity to place this information on packaging and in literature.
